GM to slash 1,000 jobs at Oshawa plant
Aug 30, 2007
Due to falling demand for pick-up trucks south of the border, General Motors has announced that they'll be cutting 1,000 jobs at their Oshawa, Ontario manufacturing facility. The cuts will come from eliminating one shift.
Approximately 85% of the Chevrolet Silverado’s and GMC Sierra’s built in Oshawa are destined for the U.S. market and with an increasingly frail economy down south automakers are feeling the pinch.
The Oshawa facility employs more than 3,000 workers and supports numerous other business from parts suppliers to fast food restaurants.
The cuts at the plant are another blow for the CAW which has been working hard to preserve manufacturing jobs in Canada.
