DaimlerChrysler #1 in warranty costs for ‘06

mercedesbenz_sclass.jpgLast year DaimlerChrysler spent over $6 billion USD on warranty costs. At $6 billion, DaimlerChrysler spent more on warranty costs than any other manufacturer. General Motors spent $4.46 billion, Ford spent $4.1 billion, Toyota spent $2.37 billion and Honda less than $1 billion.

According to Automotive News, Mercedes’ complex Comand Infotainment System contributed greatly to DaimlerChrysler’s warranty costs.

To combat falling sales, the Chrysler Group recently announced a lifetime powertrain warranty in the United States. Though a clever marking tool, the warranty will drive up costs at the automaker at a time when they need to be cutting back.
