Mercedes-Benz celebrates record August sales month

Mercedes-Benz and its retailers have reason to celebrate today, as they’ve just reported their best August ever. The Daimler group put a record-setting 2427 Mercedes-Benz and Smart units up on the big monthly sales board. This represents overall growth of 7.4% for the month, as well as an increase of 3054 units on the total of 20,725 vehicles delivered thus far this year (which is an increase of 17.3%). Wunderbar!

The mix of delivered vehicles was fairly broad, but there are a few notable highlights:

• GLK-Class sales were 44.7% ahead of last August.
• E-Class variants were also high achievers, with the sedan continuing to dominate in its segment; the other family members (including the Coupe, Wagon, and Cabriolet) were ahead a very impressive 65.7% over August of 2009.
• Diesels also scored well with a take rate of 79.3%.
• 4MATIC sales made up 71.0% of the overall passenger car and light truck sales in August.
• Smart reported a total of 173 delivered units for August, and a total of 1472 vehicles year to date.
• The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter showed up to the party with 161 units for the board; this marks the best month ever for Sprinter sales in Canada.
• Mercedes-Benz Pre-owned sales also reported a record August sales month with a total of 980 deliveries (used car numbers matter when there’s a 3 pointed star on the hood). This translates to an increase of 29.5% over August 2009, along with an overall growth of 27.5% (1488 vehicles) for national Pre-owned sales year-to-date.
