Thousands of Mazda 3s and 5s recalled in Canada
Aug 18, 2010
Mazda Canada has just announced a recall of 90,000 vehicles in Canada due to steering issues. So heads up for owners of any 2007 to 2009 Mazda 3’s and Mazda 5‘s as Mazda says these vehicles could suffer from a power-steering loss, making it difficult for the driver to steer.

According to sources from Mazda, the problem was caused by rust forming inside the high-pressure pipe in the power steering system. Rust particles could enter the power steering pump, causing it to go into a fail safe mode and shut down to avoid overheating.
Mazda will be replacing power steering pumps and lines on the affected Mazda models. However, because Mazda is short of parts to fix the problem, it is separating the recall into two phases.
Some owners will get details about how to have their cars fixed in a mailing that will begin by September 15, but others might not hear anything until February, according to NHTSA. As always, if there are any concerns, contact Mazda Canada directly.
In total, the recall involves 215,000 vehicles in the United States and an additional 100,000 vehicles in Canada and Mexico.
