Ford Canada fined $850,000 for workplace deaths

Ford Canada may be enjoying surging sales, great press and strong prospects for growth but that doesn't mean they're above the law. Ford Canada has been fined $850,000 for two workplace deaths that took place at Ford facilities in Oakville and Bramalea.

The Ministry of Labour imposed the fines based on violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The first incident occurred in January 2008 when a worker was crushed between two forklifts. The second incident, which occurred in January 2009, involved a lift truck operator who was crushed when the lift truck struck a storage rack.

Ford Canada plead guilty to the charges and is also required to pay an additional 25% victim fine surcharge.
