Chrysler Canada’s sales increase continues
Mar 3, 2010
Recently I wrote that Chrysler Canada enjoyed a 20 per cent sales increase in January, and that they had also secured the number 2 ranking in sales by an Automaker here in Canada. Today it’s been reported that the momentum continues … the Chrysler group has posted a sales increase of 17% for February, and they’ve retained their position as Canada’s number 2 selling Automaker.
Total sales of 14,045 new vehicles were recorded, as compared with a total of 12,015 for February of 2009. The total sales increase is notable, but perhaps even more telling is the increase at the retail level, at a total of 23 per cent - an indicator of very strong showroom traffic.
"The Olympic athletes were not the only ones who were going for the gold in February," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Chrysler Canada. "Our retail sales were up over 20 per cent for the third month running, and we won't rest till we are at the top of the podium again."
With these announcements come some more highlights:
The Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country recorded combined sales of 4,415 units, an increase of 47 per cent over last year. February marks the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains for the company's minivans. These vehicles command a remarkable 85 per cent market share and dominate some other stats as well; the Dodge Grand Caravan was the No. 2 selling nameplate in the country (that’s a LOT of parking spots at Costco).
Sales of the Ram pickup surged 88 per cent in February over the same month last year, with 3,001 units sold, compared with last year’s total of 1594. The Ram was Canada's No. 5 selling nameplate in February, making Chrysler Canada the only automaker to have two of the top five selling vehicles in the country.
Canada's No. 1 selling crossover, the Dodge Journey, had its best February ever, with sales of 1,449 units, up 53 per cent over February 2009.
Jeep brand vehicles experienced another strong sales month, taking their sales off road (and off the charts). The Wrangler was the star of this show, and posted a 66 per cent increase year-over-year on sales of 670 units.
