Canadians can now purchase General Motors vehicles used by VANOC
Mar 3, 2010
For the past 17 days, General Motors Olympic badged vehicles have become a familiar site in Vancouver and Whistler. Now that the Olympics are over Canadian’s can have a piece of Olympic history in their driveway, by purchasing an Olympic vehicle from your local General Motors Dealership.
General Motors of Canada was the official provider of vehicles for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and provided VANOC (Vancouver Organizing Committee) with 4600 vehicles. These General Motors vehicles were used for a variety of purposes, mostly shuttling athletes and dignitaries. The trucks performed heavy-duty work at the different Olympic venues.
Many of these vehicles have extremely low mileage, some being under 3000km, and have been on the road for less then eight weeks. General Motors also provided VANOC with eight hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to test, and two pre-production Chevrolet Volt plug in hybrids.
Of the 4600 vehicles that General Motors provided VANOC, 3300 of the vehicles are built to American specifications. Those vehicles will be shipped to America for re-sale. Tom Laurie, GM Canada's manager of Olympic partnerships stated, "We probably couldn't absorb them, and if we tried to we would probably have some serious depreciation or deterioration of the price."
British Columbia dealerships are already taking deposits on these Olympic vehicles, and should start arriving to British Columbia dealerships in mid-March. More vehicles will become available after the Paralympics, which end on March 21st 2010. Dealerships outside of British Columbia can bid on Olympic vehicles in an auction. Each vehicle used in the Olympics will feature the 2010 Olympic inukshuk logo as well as the Olympic Rings.
If you would like to have an Olympic vehicle in your driveway, contact your local General Motors Dealership. Who knows you could be driving the vehicle that shuttled Team Canada after they won Gold in Hockey.
