Canada Post orders 4,800 Transit Connects

Next time you see your mailman letter carrier they may be at the wheel of Ford's new (for North America) Transit Connect. Canada Post finalized the deal on an order of 4,800 of them, with 1,175 being delivered this year to replace older vehicles in their fleet.

The Transit Connect is quickly becoming the darling of fleet buyers, with best in class fuel economy and a surprising amount of cargo volume.

The CAW isn't too pleased that Ford chose the Turkish-built Ford Transit Connect instead of Ontario-built Chrysler minivans but as you can imagine Ford Canada exec's are feeling pretty good.

"At Ford we are dedicated to delivering quality, safe and fuel efficient vehicles to Canadian businesses – and the Ford Transit Connect delivers on all fronts," said David Mondragon, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. "The versatility of the vehicle will allow employees to work more efficiently, and the fuel economy delivered by the Transit Connect will help bring Canada Post one step closer to achieving important environmental goals."

Thanks for the tip Ben

So all those CAW license plate frames saying "BUY DOMESTIC" really only apply if it suits the CAW's views of the day? There are more BUY DOMESTIC frames on US, Mexican and Korean made vehicles than on Canadian built vehicles. Let the hipocrosy roll!!!

if the CAW is going to cry about it, how about they suggest to Chrysler that they build a minivan WITHOUT a gas guzzling V6, why do postal workers need a big V6 to putter around urban areas?

How dare the CAW suggest that a crown corporation spend Canadian tax dollars in Canada? I'm all for supporting Turkish health care and social programs. The sooner high paying jobs leave Canada the better I say! Lets rid this country of it's social safety net for good, that way people like me who can afford to pay for everything, will finely occupy our rightful position at the front of the line!

Awesome! Smart move.

Now if only UPS and Fed Ex would adopt these in the downtown core.

Canada Post had problems with Israel for their treatment of Palestinians. But they have no problem with Turkey and their genocide of numerous races of Asia Minor?

And what about all that tax money we tax payers spent bailing out local industry.

Double hypocrisy. Shame on Canada Post.
