Are these the 24 worst vehicles on the market today?

With competition more intense than ever, there are no bad cars. Or is that just BS? The Mechanic, a contributor to Edmunds Inside Line and former automotive journalist and magazine editor who may or may not be a distant relative of The Stig, thinks there are plenty of terrible vehicles on the road today. 24 to be exact.

So the question is, do you agree with his list?

There are a lot of vehicles that deserve to be on this list. But the Corolla? And the Versa?

  • Nissan Versa
  • Chevy Cobalt
  • Toyota Corolla
  • Dodge Caliber
  • Buick Lucerne
  • Ford Explorer
  • Mercury Mountaineer
  • Chrysler Sebring
  • Chrysler PT Cruiser
  • Dodge Avenger
  • Jeep Compass
  • Jeep Patriot
  • Ford Ranger
  • Chevy Colorado
  • GMC Canyon
  • Dodge Grand Caravan
  • Land Rover LR2
  • Lincoln Town Car
  • Mercury Grand Marquis
  • Chrysler Town & Country
  • Mitsubishi Galant
  • Mitsubishi Endeavor
  • Cadillac STS
  • Saab 9-7x

Some of those make me go yeah....that car should be on the list but the Corolla?

I've been told lately Mitsubishi should be on that list, but I don't really believe it yet. I love the look of the Endeavor but haven't bought one for the reason of the bad reputation with my mechanic.

I agree with all of them... his criteria isn't reliability or mechanical worthiness, they are just boring, dull, lame vehicles to drive/look at/sit in/be seen in... the Corolla should be #1!

I'm curious as to why the Ford Ranger is on this list. Sure it doesn't have the fancy technologies available in other vehicles - nor does it have a chassis less than a decade old. But it DOES have a steller reputation for dependability, and capability. It holds numerous awards for safety (beating out many of its 'modern' competitors), value retention, and

For the $13-$17k they're listing for these days, it's tough to find a vehicle that could do more....and the 4x4 trim levels (particularly the FX4 Level II) would make most Jeeps (minus the Rubicon) break a sweat on the trails.

Aside from the Cobalt most of these cars are perfectly competent at what they are supposed to do.

Even the Cobalt does a decent job of bringing people around. I think we're all a little spoiled nowadays. Do we remember the Chevette?
