And you thought smart cars were bad in the snow?

Walt Disney is frozen. Mixing pop rocks and coke causes an explosion. The smart is awful in the snow. Damn urban legends.

To quell concerns that the smart fourtwo can't handle a good ol' Canadian winter Mercedes-Benz Canada set-up a smart Winter Expedition. And we're not talking about a quick drive up to the cottage.

How does a 7550 km drive from British Columbia to the Artic Circle and back sound?

Mercedes-Benz Canada organized a 12-day Winter Expedition lasting 12 days, with 3 legs, 7 smart fortwos, 34 journalists and 3 support vehicles.

The general consensus from participants was that the arctic is cold and the smart fortwo is a very capable car in the snow.

Check out the smart Winter Expedition Facebook page and read some interesting articles right here.

What do you think....would you brave the arctic in a smart car?

that's probably one of the few places I WOULD drive a smart car... at least at the arctic circle, no one would see you in it.

Of course, when driving a Smart Car, it is always a good idea to have another support vehicle with you, as this expedition proved. What is especially true is that you would never venture out in winter without being accompanied by a real car. Thanks for letting us in on the secret, Mercedes.

smart's ad campaign slogan is "Open your mind". While this is possible for most of us, it does pre-suppose you have a mind!! From the DUMB comments above, it is clear some do not!

smart is very well configured for winter driving as any ex VW aircooled driver can attest. It's just way better because of all the nanny electronics and a decent heater.

The reason for the MB chase vehicles should be onvious. Do you really want to run the risk of stranding journalists i the middle of nowhere?? It's called liability, dummies!
