Toyota Canada sales down 10.4% last month

Toyota isn't use to being in the loser category. Heck, we're not use to seeing Toyota Canada in the loser category. But here we are.

And obviously the decision on January 26 to pull 8 models from production and the selling floor to address the sticky pedal issue impacted Toyota Canada's Jnuary results.

So what were the exact sales figures you ask? Follow the jump for all the info.

Last month sales of Toyota's fell by 14.8% compared to January 2009. This figure excludes sales of Lexus models. Toyota Canada's overall sales figures for January 2010 were down 10.4%. A bright spot for Toyota Canada last month was Lexus with sales up 62.1% last month.

Despite the Toyota recall, the following models and categories recorded best-ever January sales:

  • Toyota Trucks: 3,946 (up 3.7%)
  • Lexus luxury SUVs: 584 (up 122.1%)
  • Toyota Venza: 968 (up 114.6%)
  • Toyota Tacoma 4×4: 494 (up 12.3%)
  • Lexus RX 350: 480 (up 231.0%)

"We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued confidence at this time," said Stephen Beatty, Managing Director at Toyota Canada. "We are currently shipping pedal components to our Toyota Dealers and we anticipate modifications to customer vehicles to begin later this week. We also anticipate that new vehicle sales suspended as part of our recall action will resume this weekend."

Why?
