Toyota Canada introduces Star Safety System and revised Corolla

Toyota Canada has announced a new safety system to help Canadians avoid accidents, as well as a revised Corolla for the 2011 model year. The “Star Safety System” will come standard on every 2011 Toyota sold in Canada. The system will feature six active safety technologies.

Learn more about the Star Safety System and the 2011 Corolla after the jump.

The Star Safety System includes the following safety technologies:

  • Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
  • Traction Control (TRAC)
  • Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
  • Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
  • Brake Assist (BA)
  • Smart Stop Technology (SST

Stephen Beatty, Managing Director at Toyota Canada Inc said the following. “Toyota continues to develop and incorporate technologies that advance the safety and performance of our vehicles, and the Star Safety System embodies this commitment. The Star Safety System is a clear commitment to our customers that no matter which Toyota they choose, safety comes standard in every vehicle.”

One of the first applications of the Star Safety System will be on the newly revised 2011 Toyota Corolla, which goes on sale in January 2011. For 2011 the Corolla features redesigned headlamps, tail lamps, front grille, front and rear bumpers, and trunk lid. The Corolla S will feature a new flat bottom steering wheel, upgraded audio system with XM satellite radio, as well as USB and Bluetooth connectivity. The engine and transmission will be a carryover from the 2010 model.

The Corolla XRS model has been discontinued in the United States but will continue to be sold here in the great white north. The XRS has the updated features on the Corolla S, and will still be powered by the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 5 speed manual transmission.

Pricing for the 2011 Toyota Corolla will be announced closer to launch. Customers with questions regarding the Star Safety System can visit toyota.ca or visit their local Toyota dealership.

Saw a commercial on TV last night showing the Camry stopping sooner than its competitors; then said its because of the "Star Safety System". Problem is, the ad didnt tell us 'what' the system is. Looks great, sounds great, but if they dont tell people what it is, its not going to help their sales! To me it sounded 'made up'. After reading this article I see that its "grouping existing techologies under a single banner" for marketing. Blech. Its not a 'system', its an 'option package made standard'.
