2011 Suzuki Kizashi to start at $25,995

Earlier this month we announced that there are some changes to the 2011 Kizashi line-up (link), particularly the long-awaited addition of a 6-speed manual to Canadian-spec models (a feature that our neighbours to the south have enjoyed for a year now).

This week we have pricing for the new Kizashi S and Kizashi Sport models.

The FWD Kizashi Sport with a 6-speed manual transmission will cost you $29,495, $500 less than the SX model which only comes with AWD and CVT. The Kizashi Sport includes the following features not found on other Kizashi models:
  • Unique 18” wheels
  • A sport front bumper
  • Unique side sills
  • Trunk mounted rear spoiler
  • 6-speed manual transmission

The Kizashi S scraps the Rockford Fosgate audio system, Bluetooth, 18” wheels (it gets 17” instead), auto lights, fog lights, sunroof, power passenger seat, and AWD. It's priced at $25,995, $4,000 less than the range topping SX model. Oddly it's only available with CVT so if you want a manual transmission you have to step up to the Sport.

These changes are just not enough to make this car a viable mid size competitor. The post previous to this one was about the new Hyundai Sonata Turbo priced at $28,999, $500 less than the Kizashi Sport. I like the handling, manual transmission and styling of this car, but for me to consider cross-shopping this car with it's competitors, Suzuki needs to further adjust it's overly optimistic pricing scheme.

As long as Suzuki continues to try to force the CVT transmission on its customers, Kizashi sales will lag. What is needed is a base model with the 6-speed manual for $ 23,995.

Then, try to put some cars on the road with enticing leases. Anybody who knows about potential resale values won't take the chance of buying a Kizashi. But a lease with competitive residual and interest rate could entice some buyers.
