What to do at the Detroit Auto Show if you're not a car person?
Jan 18, 2010
Judging by the bored expressions on the faces of many people at the Detroit Auto Show over the weekend, thousands of auto show attendees have little interest in cars, trucks or anything automotive. They were probably suckered into going by a friend.
So what can a non-car person do at North America's premier auto show? Plenty.
Let's start at the Ford booth where sports fans can get in a quick game of foosball. The game attracted hords of people and had their full attention, despite being only metres away from the Mustang GT with the all-new 5.0L V8.
Going to the show with a non-stop business manperson? After a while they'll need to charge their smart phone to check e-mails. Time to head over to the smart car display where they have a smart phone charging station. Clever.
Should you be at the Detroit Auto Show with a foodie, there are plenty of over-priced vendors ready to serve you a Dearborn Sausage (onions, peppers and italian sausage) or any other local favourite. But what's up with not being able to bring water into the show that has fudge vendors every 50 feet?
Take the art lover to the Ferrari display, the audiophile to the Subaru booth and walk through their Harman Kardon display or take the environmentalist on a ride in a hybrid in the basement of the Cobo Center.
Yep, auto shows have enough to please everyone (or at least that's what I tell my friends).
