More fuel-efficient Prius unveiled
Jan 12, 2009 Toyota rolled out the 2010 Prius today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the third generation of the iconic gas-electric hybrid that is larger and more fuel-efficient than the previous model.
In its first and second generations, the Prius became the world's best-selling hybrid, with more than one million vehicles sold worldwide. It also became a symbol of green automotive technology.
"For Toyota, designing the Prius has always represented an exploration of the car of the future. And now, more than ever before, that future car is here - not five years from now - but on its way to Toyota Canada Dealers and Canadian driveways this spring," noted Stephen Beatty, Managing Director of Toyota Canada Inc.
In the 2010 Prius you'll find more performance, thanks to a Hybrid Synergy Drive that is 90 percent newly-developed, with significant improvements over the system used in previous Toyota hybrid models. The 2010 Prius improves power by 22 percent while simultaneously improving fuel consumption by 7 percent compared to the current generation.
