CAW signs new agreement at Ingersoll, ON assembly plant
Jun 5, 2007
Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) members at the CAMI Automotive assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario have voted in favour of a new three-year agreement that provides improved wages, benefits and pensions.
The plant, which builds the Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Suzuki XL7, employs 2,300 CAW members. Production workers voted 78.3 percent in favour at a ratification meeting on the weekend, while skilled trades voted 73.8 percent.
Wage increases, including projected cost of living, are $2.71 over the three years for production workers and $3.12 for skilled trades. Childcare, legal services and vacations were all improved, the union says.
The two sides entered into early bargaining, in order to position the plant for new investment and a future product commitment.
